Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Hair Removal

One of the many uses of the phenomenal Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology is to reduce unwanted hair. IPL technology can target most hair colors except for white, gray and blonde and is safe for all skin types. The Landells Clinic was the first of its kind in the province to start using IPL technology.

How it works:

IPL targets the pigment in the hair follicle and destroys the root with heat. There is no damage to the surrounding skin. The IPL can only destroy hair that is in the Anagen phase of hair growth. As hair growth is cyclic, you will need an average of 5-8 treatments to get the best results.

What to expect:

IPL hair removal can reduce hair growth by about 50-80% (depending on the area being treated).. As IPL does target pigment you should refrain from having this treatment done if you have tanned skin or have recently used a self-tanner. You should wear sunscreen of a SPF 30 or higher for 2-3 weeks following your treatment. Multiple treatments are required for best results with re-treatment done at certain intervals that are determined by the area of hair growth.

It is important to remember that there is no existing laser that can destroy all the hair follicles. Some hair will be destroyed, others may become finer and less noticeable and some hair follicles will be shocked into dormancy There is no guarantee of permanency with any type of IPL or laser hair removal. The FDA has cleared these lasers for "permanent hair reduction" and not "permanent hair removal". An honest, reputable clinic will never guarantee permanent hair removal. Many of those who do, end up going out of business.
